The RSM Classic, PGA Tour & DP World Tour Championship, European Tour

The RSM Classic, PGA Tour – 10 pts Outlay

At Sea Island Golf Course , 7,005 yards, par 70 – Thursday November 17th to Sunday November 20th

Dating back to 1929, Seaside began as nine holes by English architects Harry Colt and Charles Alison along the southern tip of St. Simon's Island. Bobby Jones once described Seaside as among the best nine holes he’d ever encountered. Joe Lee designed the “Marshside Nine” in 1973, and Tom Fazio was commissioned to bring the two together in 1999. Once again, entrants also will play one of the first two rounds at the revamped Plantation course, where Rees Jones also fused two previous nine-hole layouts into an 18-hole parkland test.

Olympic bronze medallist Matt Kuchar and Zach Johnson, neighbours on next-door St. Simon’s Island, join fellow U.S. Ryder Cup member Brandt Snedeker and captain Davis Love III for the final event of the fall season. Jim Furyk also is amid a line-up that includes five of the top 35 players in the world rankings. More than a half-dozen entrants don't have to venture far from their St. Simon's Island homes, a list that also includes former U.S. Open champion Lucas Glover, PGA TOUR winners Harris English, Jonathan Byrd and Brian Harman. Bob Estes, a four-time PGA TOUR winner, tees it up for just the third time since the end of 2013 but second in three weeks. He missed the cut in Las Vegas.

DP World Tour Championship, European Tour – 10 pts Outlay

At Jumeirah Golf Estates, 7,675 yards, par 72 – Thursday November 17th to Sunday November 20th

Earth is one of two courses set across the 1,119 hectares of lush green landscape at Jumeirah Golf Estates, and has been the home of the DP World Tour Championship since 2009. Designed by Greg Norman, the 7675 yard course is inspired by the great parkland courses of Europe and North America.

Earth plays to a par 72 and features rolling fairways, brilliant white bunkers and a deep red ochre backdrop framed by trees and shrubs.

There is no shortage of hazards, with a total of 99 bunkers as well as a variety of lakes. Each of the last four holes plays alongside or over water, culminating in a meandering creek running the full length of the 18th hole.

60 players will compete in the final event of the season, with four still in the running to win the Race to Dubai.

Open Champion Henrik Stenson currently leads the Rankings, followed by 2016 Masters Tournament winner Danny Willett. Alex Noren is now up to third position after claiming his fourth victory of the season at the Nedbank Golf Challenge hosted by Gary Player, while defending Race to 10 Dubai champion Rory McIlroy is also in contention, but must win this week to have a chance of being crowned European Tour Number One for the fourth time.

The additional incentive of a share of the $5million Bonus Pool for anyone finishing the season in the top ten means the likes of Tyrrell Hatton, Branden Grace, Rafa Cabrera Bello, Louis Oosthuizen, Chris Wood and Thorbjørn Olesen will all be looking to maintain their positions.

Slightly further down the Rankings, Jeunghun Wang has pulled ahead in the race to be named Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year. Along with his rivals in the field - Li Haotong, Soomin Lee, Brandon Stone and Ricardo Gouveia - Wang is aiming to be the highest placed rookie in the final Race to Dubai Rankings and collect the award previously won by the likes of Martin Kaymer, Sergio Garcia and Ian Poulter.

Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, PGA Tour & Turkish Airlines Open, European Tour

Hi All,

A pretty solid start for the new improved service, seeing us ending the week in profit; with 4/1 and 9/2 bets landing in the World Golf Championship event in China, and also 3/1 and 11/1 bets landing in America.

Had a lot of positive feedback regarding the higher variety of markets we use, and also having an in play shot midway through the tournaments, these certainly have added to the excitement and diversity of the service; and we were definably pleased with the first week, and the fact it fits perfectly into our long-term points system only adds to the potential going forwards.

Moving on to this week, where we have concentrated on the 2 main tours, a write up for each event inclusive of some recommended bets can be found below: -

Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, PGA Tour – 10 pts Outlay

At TPC Summerlin , 7,255 yards, par 71 – Thursday November 3rd to Sunday November 6th Now in its 25th year as a PGA TOUR venue, the 1991 collaboration of Bobby Weed and two-time major champion Fuzzy Zoeller was carved from rugged Nevada desert to join what was then a three course rotation for the Las Vegas stop. It became the sole venue in 2008 as part of a tournament restructuring. TPC Summerlin meanders through arroyos and canyons leading to a four-hole closing stretch packed with risk/reward – the drivable par-4 15th, the par-5 16th, the water-lined par-3 17th and a strong par-4 18th hole to finish with.

PGA Championship winner Jimmy Walker and U.S. Ryder Cup teammates Brooks Koepka, J.B. Holmes and Ryan Moore top a line-up that features six of the top 36 in the current world rankings. Winning Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III makes his first start since being elected to the World Golf Fall of Fame. Current Hall of Famers Ernie Els and Vijay Singh also are entered. Wesley Bryan, a three-time winner on the Web.com Tour last year, makes his second start of his PGA Tour rookie season.

Recent trends have shown Las Vegas to be a prime locale to add another first-time winner to the list. Patton Kizzire already has a runner-up finish this season at the Safeway Open, and Derek Fathauer was third when the Tour stopped in Malaysia earlier this month. Former champions Ryan Moore and Kevin Na head a strong Las Vegas delegation that seeks to keep the trophy in town again. Also among more than a half-dozen Vegas residents are Charley Hoffman, Scott Piercy, Nick Watney and Alex Cejka. Moore and Bryson DeChambeau give the event two of just five men to win the U.S. Amateur and NCAA individual titles in the same year. The others are Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson, and Tiger Woods. Smylie Kaufman will try to become just the second man to claim back-to-back titles in Las Vegas, accomplished by Jim Furyk in 1998 and 1999.

Advised Bets (10pts): -

Turkish Airlines Open, European Tour – 10 pts Outlay

At Regnum Carya Golf & Spa Resort, 7,127 yards, par 71 – Thursday, November 3rd to Sunday, November 6th

Regnum Carya Golf & Spa Resort is home to Turkey’s first heathland inspired golf course, designed by Thomson Perrett & Lobb, the international golf course design practice founded by five times British Open Champion Peter Thomson.

Located close to the Mediterranean Sea in Antalya’s Belek region, the par 71 layout measures 7,127 yards from the championship tees. The golf course, which is hosting a European Tour event for the first time, is set on undulating sand hills with free flowing holes running through a pine forest. More than one million heather plants have been added to the existing areas of indigenous heather to create Carya’s distinctive look.

As on traditional heathland courses, a tactical approach is required, and finding the correct side of the fairway to attack the green is often more important than distance off the tee. The greens are large, undulating and fast. Many feature multiple plateaus, creating ‘greens within greens’.

Two-time winner Dubuisson will defend his crown in a new location as a field of 78 players gathers at the Regnum Carya Golf & Spa Resort from November 3rd -6 th . Portugal Masters champion Padraig Harrington, who won his first European Tour title since the 2008 US PGA Championship with that victory in the Algarve is making his first appearance at the tournament since 2013. Other notable entrants include 2016 Masters Tournament champion Danny Willett and Tyrrell Hatton, the winner of this season’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. European Ryder Cup players Andy Sullivan and Lee Westwood will also compete, alongside vice-captain, Paul Lawrie.

NOTE: As per usual, please do be careful and aware of who you are betting with for the golf, amazingly a lot of the higher profile companies change week by week on what place terms they offer. This week on the PGA Tour StanJames are offering places on the top 6 at 1/4 odds, so we will be staying with them for the EW shots! For the European Tour event, PaddyPower are offering top 6 places at 1/5 odds, so that’s why I have advised staying with them for the outright market bets.

Portugal Masters European Tour 2016

Hi All,

Another week, and another hard luck story, with half the selections placing inside the top 4 of their respective tournaments! Casey, Bland and Fleetwood in firm contention throughout the duration of both events! The door being firmly knocked on now, with places coming ten a penny, the winner has to be around the corner. We lost a small number of points due to dead heat rules, which saw us end up just 1 point down for the week, and with the return of investment still over the 40% figure for the year, we are doing pretty good, and hopefully you are all enjoying following as we come into the final few months of the service being free of charge.

On that note; there have been a couple of different sites that have contacted me regarding taking on board my service for next year onwards, and discussions are still ongoing, but as soon as I have any concrete information about the cost and location of my service I will of course let you all know. On to this week; and I have concentrated my attentions on the Portugal Masters, at a venue I know well and enjoy; the article inclusive of selections can be found below: -

Portugal Masters, European Tour – 25 pts Outlay

At Victoria Club, 7,146 yards, par 71 – Thursday October 20th to Sunday October 23rd

Designed by the legendary Arnold Palmer and first opened in 2004, the Victoria Clube de Golfe Course is a championship layout that measures 7,146 yards and plays to a par of 71. One of five courses at Vilamoura, the Victoria Clube de Golfe hosted the World Cup of Golf back in 2005, when Stephen Dodd and Bradley Dredge of Wales triumphed.

With generous fairways and gentle rough, there are plenty of birdies to be had but with several lakes and hazards framing the course, there is certainly a risk-and-reward element to many holes. Great care has been taken to ensure the preservation of the surrounding wetlands and natural vegetation, including carob, olive and almond trees.

A field packed with Ryder Cup stars, European Tour winners and home-grown heroes will descend on the Algarve for the tenth edition of the Portugal Masters. Record-breaking rookie Thomas Pieters and defending champion Andy Sullivan will bring Ryder Cup pedigree to Victoria Clube de Golfe, together with three men who formed part of Europe’s backroom team at Hazeltine National, Thomas Bjørn, Padraig Harrington and Paul Lawrie. The duo will be joined in Vilamoura by in-form Swede Alex Noren, who has won three titles this year, including last week at the British Masters supported by Sky Sports, big-hitting Spaniard Alvaro Quiros, and his compatriot José Maria Olazábal.

Having been side-lined for 18 months since last year’s Masters, a tournament he won on two occasions, Olazábal will continue his comeback from injury in the Algarve. Ricardo Gouveia, currently 93rd in the Race to Dubai and virtually guaranteed a place on the European Tour next term, will lead the home challenge.

NAP – THOMAS PIETERS 8/1 (Bet365 & BetVictor) 10 pts WIN

Safeway Open - PGA Tour & British Masters European Tour 2016

Hi All,

Those of you who were following the updates via twitter would of know that last week was nearly a tremendous week, at the half-way and three-quarter stage we had the top 15 flooded with players, but a fantastic weekend of golf from England’s Tyrell Hatton really took the tournament away from anyone; with only Fisher in 2nd and Wiesberger in 7th seeing us secure some place money. A tough week on tour to select for, with 168 pros teeing it up, so to have all 7 selections make the cut, and 5 of them to finish inside the top 20 was a pretty good effort.

Moving on, and amazing to the start of the new season on The PGA Tour, with also The British Masters being played just on the outskirts of London; this week’s article inclusive of some advised bets can be found below: -

Safeway Open, PGA Tour – 11 pts Outlay

At Silverado Resort & Spa, 7,203 yards, par 72 – Thursday October 13th to Sunday October 16th

Once the estate of a Civil War general and later U.S. senator from California, the Napa Valley property was transformed into a resort in the 1960s and Robert Trent Jones Jr. signed to build two 18-hole courses. The PGA TOUR arrived shortly thereafter, launching the Kaiser International in 1968 to begin a 13-year run at the resort. Silverado later was part of the Champions Tour schedule as host of The Transamerica from 1989-2002. Hall of Famer Johnny Miller and two partners bought Silverado in 2010, with Miller quickly overseeing an overhaul of both courses.

Tiger Woods, ending a 14-month injury layoff from competition, and Phil Mickelson serve as headliners for the opening event of the 2016-17 season, joined by three other players from among the top 25 in the world rankings. World No.12 Paul Casey is the highest ranked in the line-up. Mickelson and U.S. teammate Matt Kuchar are the only Ryder Cup competitors to sign up for the new season's opener. Jon Rahm, who earned his PGA TOUR card via sponsor exemptions after turning pro last season, makes his first start as a full TOUR member. The Spaniard tied for second at the RBC Canadian Open and third at the Quicken Loans National. Stanford senior Maverick McNealy, No. 1 in the world amateur rankings, and Cal's Collin Morikawa have accepted sponsor exemptions into the field. Aaron Wise, who won this year's NCAA title at Oregon, also was given an exemption. He turned pro in June and finished fourth on the Mackenzie Tour-PGA TOUR Canada's Order of Merit. The field boasts 38 graduates from either the Web.com Tour or its four-event Finals, including combined money leader Wesley Bryan.

British Masters, European Tour – 11 pts Outlay

At The Grove, 7,121 yards, par 71 – Thursday October 13th to Sunday October 16th

The course bears the markings of the renowned golf course architect Kyle Phillips, whose previous creations include the epic Kingsbarns Golf Links, and was designed in 2003. Intricacies are a feature of this course, The Grove in Hertfordshire showcasing large undulating greens with wispy grass surrounding most of the bunkers on the course. The Grand Union canal runs alongside holes 12 and 13, with the course’s two nines reversed for the British Masters.

It is the first time the tournament has been staged at The Grove, with the only previous.

European Tour event staged at the Hertfordshire course in 2006, the WGC – American Express Championship, which was won by Tiger Woods.

Headlining this week’s field are six Major champions including Danny Willett, Y.E Yang, Graeme McDowell, Trevor Immelman, Paul Lawrie and José María Olazábal. It will be a first appearance for Olazábal since the 2015 Masters Tournament and the 23-time European Tour champion is sure to draw a large crowd.

Defending champion Fitzpatrick will have a battle on his hands with the likes of Sweden’s Alex Noren, a two-time winner on the European Tour in 2016, US Open Championship runner-up Shane Lowry, and the most recent winner of the European Tour, countryman Tyrrell Hatton, who carded a 62 course record-equalling at St Andrews on his way to securing his maiden European Tour title.

Tournament host Donald will be joined by compatriots and members of The 2016 Ryder Cup team Lee Westwood, Chris Wood and Andy Sullivan, as they continue their march towards the season Race to Dubai finale.

Alfred Dunhill Links Championship European Tour

Hi All,

A disappointing week from a European perspective, as the USA reclaimed the Ryder cup from us, however, this will only be a temporary loan, as Europe will win it back in Paris in 2 years’ time for sure! On the positive side, we landed a nice couple of bets to return a good sized profit for the week, with the day one correct score landing at 6/1 and also Patrick Reed being the outright USA top scorer at 7/1. For this next section of the article, I have conducted a small review of our year to date, accompanied by a table indicting some of the key information from each month, along with a handful of slips some of you guys have sent in since the service began. This week’s article inclusive of selections can also be found underneath too: -

Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, European Tour – 25 pts Outlay

At St. Andrews Old Course, 7,307 yards, par 72; Kingsbarns Golf Links, 7,227 yards, par 72 & Carnoustie, 7,345, par 72 – Thursday October 6th to Sunday October 9th This week, the European Tour returns to the ‘Home of Golf’ as the 16th edition of the ‘Alfred Dunhill Links Championship’ gets underway, a favourite amongst Tour professionals and amateurs alike. Celebrating links golf at its finest, the tournament is played over three of the world’s best known and respected links courses – the Old Course at St Andrews, Carnoustie and the highly regarded Kingsbarns Golf Links. For this event, I shall also be in attendance, and for that reason I have included a few extra selections than a normal week, to keep things interesting for me while up there in bonny Scotland, however, the normal points structure remains firmly in place.

The Field

The big names certainly come out to play at this unique tournament on Scotland’s east coast.

As sports stars, entertainment icons and golf fans from across the world filter in to St. Andrews, the list of golfing stars is one to be matched.

Current Masters champion Danny Willett headlines the event, with Spaniard Rafa Cabrera Bello, who currently sits fourth in the Race to Dubai rankings looking to add to his European Tour trophy cabinet after an impressive debut at the 2016 Ryder Cup.

Belgium’s Thomas Pieters has been in scintillating form, claiming four of a possible five points at Hazeltine National. It has been a remarkable two months for the 24-year-old, with 5 a fourth-placed finish at the Olympics, a runners-up spot at the D+D REAL Czech Masters and a win at the Made in Denmark.

Former winner Branden Grace, leading Irish golfer Shane Lowry and Andrew Johnston, now affectionately known as ‘Beef’, will also be joined by previous winners of the event in Martin Kaymer and Lee Westwood.

Rubbing shoulders with the pros this week will be the likes of actors Hugh Grant and Andy Garcia, as well as cricketing legends Kevin Pietersen and Michael Vaughan.

The Courses

The event incorporates two separate competitions – an individual professional tournament for 168 of the world’s leading golfers and a Team Championship, in which each professional is paired with one of 168 amateurs, played over three courses.

St Andrews - Over 650 years old, St Andrews last hosted The Open Championship in 2015 and is famous for its large undulating greens and exposed conditions, considered by many as links golf at its finest. Shaped by nature on a spit of land which juts into the estuary of the River Eden, it can be friendly on a calm day, then turn into a monster when the wind blows.

Carnoustie - Host of seven Open Championships and the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship since 2001, Carnoustie is known the world over as one of the toughest and most merciless links courses. A long course that is testing for the best when the wind blows, it provides a formidable challenge for any golfer.

Kingsbarns Golf Links - Opened in 2000 and designed by Kyle Philips, the large undulating greens of Kingsbarns presents a number of scoring opportunities for all types of players. A mixture of flat and undulating surfaces across the 18 holes, it is an exposed links course with very few water hazards, yet a number of bunkers, with those who maintain accuracy from the tee to be rewarded. There are spectacular coastal views on a number of holes, including the third, 12th, 15th and 16th.

Recommended Bets

NAP – THOMAS PIETERS 16/1 (PaddyPower) 4.5 pts EW

Fresh from a stellar performance at last week’s Ryder Cup, securing honor’s as Europe’s leading points scorer, Thomas arrives here to an event where he has had previous success at, showing the ability to score on all three of the courses. So with confidence high, Thomas looks set to go close to his fourth European Tour title.

NB – BERND WIESBERGER 18/1 (PaddyPower) 3 pts EW

Over recent years Bernd has been a regular fixture at the top end of the Dunhill Links leaderboard, finishing inside the top 14 places in each of the last three playings of the event; and with a 5th place and a 2nd place to his name in his last two events, it looks likes Bernd is coming into some great form to go close once again.

IWAC – ALEX NOREN 22/1 (PaddyPower) 2 pts EW

The winner of this year’s Scottish Open and runner-up of the matchplay event also played in Scotland, Alex returns to Scotland clearly with positive vibes of the country. Finishing 3rd in this event in 2012, and having won the European Masters only 4 weeks ago, there are many reasons why it wouldn’t be a huge shock to see Alex making a bold bid for his third title of the season.

The Ryder Cup 2016 USA v Europe

Hi All,

A below par week for most of the guys, but for PaddyPower followers, as per last weeks note, you will have picked up on Richard Bland’s 7th place finish in the European Open, however, we won’t be including these returns in our figures, as I mainly lean towards the highest odds available rather than most amount of pay out places.

Last Week’s Outlay 20 pts Last Week’s Return 0 pts (- 20pts) Year To Date + 358.05

This week sees arguably the most exiting week of all in the golfing calendar, The Ryder Cup, with the European Team going for an unprecedented 4th victory in a row! Please see below for an in depth overview of the weeks events, inclusive of some recommended bets.

The Ryder Cup, USA v Europe – 15 pts Outlay

At Hazeltine National Golf Club, 7,628 yards, par 72 – Friday 30th September to Sunday 2nd October

Course Information

Robert Trent Jones designed Hazeltine in 1962 and it was reworked and lengthened in both 2005 and 2008. At almost 7,700 yards long, it's a lengthy, hilly course with narrow fairways and small greens; worth noting is the fact that the home captain Davis Love III, has the final say in how the course is set up each day, and may look to lengthen or shorten each day.

Tony Jacklin won the US Open here in 1970 and Payne Stewart took that title here in 1991. Sky Sports presenter, Rich Beem won the PGA Championship at Hazeltine in 2002 and seven years later, Y.E Yang caused an almighty shock when he edged out Tiger Woods to take the PGA Championship here in 2009, with the infamous final hole hybrid shot from rough.

This will be the first time the Ryder Cup has been staged at Hazeltine – below is a brief summary of each hole we’ll be seeing:

1st, 442 yards, par four: As with many Robert Trent Jones designs, the first is a notable dogleg to the left which sees fairways bunkers present the primary challenge from the tee. Laying back of them leaves a lengthy approach to a multi-tiered green so it'll be driver for post on this downhill opener.

2nd, 429 yards, par four: Another dogleg to the left where driver is a tempting option for the longer hitters. If executed well, this option cuts off the corner and reduces the hole to a wedge - although it does bring in the left-hand fairway bunker which has been moved to keep up with modern golf. Deep bunkers to the left guard a slightly raised green so those who are bold will be best rewarded.

3rd, 633 yards, par five: A three-shot par-five with trees and bunkers guarding the left-hand side of the fairway, which otherwise would be the preferred route. Lay-ups should also favour the left where possible, as any approach coming up short from the right can fall steeply away from the putting surface and indeed the lay-up itself can find thick rough which is well below the level of the green, which is cloverleaf in shape.

4th, 210 yards, par three: A long par three where the green is narrow and lengthy, which means an accurate shot should find its target but anything wayward will not. If the pin is placed at the back, only the highest hitters will feel comfortable carrying their ball all the way onto the top level and others will have to judge how best to flight their ball in order to end up in the correct location. Failing to do so makes three-putting possible.

5th, 352 yards, par four: Arguably one of the best short par-fours in golf, the small, wellguarded greens counterbalances the yardage on the scorecard and provides plenty of drama. In the right conditions, some players may attempt to drive the green but they'll need to be accurate otherwise disaster awaits. A real momentum hole early on, with birdies likely.

6th, 642 yards, par five: A new tee has added length to this brutal hole, which can be especially challenging into the wind. Dramatic bunkering is a key feature - there are in fact 14 traps in total - and like the third, it's likely that most players will be forced to play it in three shots.

7th, 402 yards, par four: Despite being relatively short, this is a properly demanding parfour with Hazeltine Lake in play all the way, along with a creek on the left-hand side of the fairway. Accuracy is therefore a must and anyone approaching this slightly raised green from the rough will do well to hold it. Those missing right will surely find the lake and it's unlikely this hole is halved all that often.

8th, 186 yards, par three: The second shortest par three on the course and a hole which offers up birdies chances, despite the green being among the more undulating on the course. Otherwise, it's very much as you see, with water not really in play and the bunkers not as penal as some. Most should hit the green so this hole is primarily about who can make the birdie putt.

9th, 475 yards, par four: Not unlike the first two holes, this gentle dogleg challenges players with bunkers which must be avoided off the tee. A three-tiered green awaits approaches so it's vital that they're played from the fairway, or else three-putts from distance are very much in play.

10th, 452 yards, par four: A hole which in some way resembles the 18th at Congressional, with the green sitting below the level of the fairway and a serious dogleg to the left demanding an accurate drive. With Hazeltine Lake in the backdrop, this is among the more picturesque holes on the layout and a definite birdie opportunity if players can find the fairway.

11th, 606 yards, par five: Rich Beem made the only eagle of the championship on this hole en route to his victory in the 2002 PGA. Expect to see one or two opportunities this week, as this dogleg right is wide enough off the tee and reachable for the longer hitters. Any who fail to strike their second correctly will likely find sand, however, with a cluster of bunkers acting as front guard. As such, short hitters will have their hand forced into a lay-up.

12th, 518 yards, par four: This is a hole whose difficulty comes from the yardage and fact that it is typically played into the wind. Otherwise, there's not too much disaster lurking as it's straight and wide off the tee. Big hitters will be favoured as the green is flat and shallow, meaning a high ball-flight is much favoured for the approach.

13th, 248 yards, par three: As its yardage would suggest, this is an extremely difficult parthree where accuracy is a must, with water left, bunkers on both sides and trees also playing a part. The green is also fairly small and a back-left hole location is almost impossible to attack, so expect holes to be won in three more often than not.

14th, 448 yards, par four: Another hole where a near tee box has added 50 yards, but one which remains manageable. A gentle dogleg right means the powerful players will attempt a high fade to leave wedge to a narrow, deep green. Those playing from further back will need to find the correct angle with bunkers waiting to catch errant approaches.

15th, 405 yards, par four: Trees left and right make for a claustrophobic tee shot, but big hitters can take most of them out of play and set up a short-iron approach to a green guarded by water. Those taking a more conservative approach risk being blocked out and any shot which seeks to take the water out of play could find bunkers at the rear, leaving a very difficult up and down and bringing the hazard firmly back into things.

16th, 572 yards, par five: New fairway bunkers to the left add to the challenge of this hole, but it should prove the easiest on the golf course. Every player will have the option of going for the green in two should they find the fairway and while it's a small target, eagle chances will still be forthcoming. Watch for long, pulled approaches finding the pond to the left, however.

17th, 176 yards, par three: The shortest par three on the course but not necessarily the easiest, with water and a small green both intensifying the challenge. Bunkers to the left again mean that anything conservative risks producing a very tricky second shot back towards the water, but history shows middle of the green and two putts should be the target.

18th, 432 yards, par four: An uphill par-four which is among the more demanding ones off the tee, with bunkers waiting on both sides of a narrow fairway. A huge bunker guards the right-hand side of the green, which is hard to see from the fairway.

Format of Play

Two teams of 12 play out 28 match-play ties over three days, with 14½ points the total required to take the trophy, or 14 points to retain it for Europe as current holders.

The first session on Friday morning sees European Team captain, Darren Clarke, pick four teams of two from his 12 man squad to take on US Team captain, Davis Love's, four pairs in foursomes match play. Foursomes format is often called "alternate shot" and is a tougher format than fourball. The first player tees off, the second player hits the second shot, the player that hit the first shot then hits the third shot, and so on and so forth until the ball is holed. Players hit alternate tee shots so that the same player doesn't hit every tee shot.

Friday afternoon sees four teams of two from each side play each other in the first fourballs session. In fourballs, each of the four players plays their own ball and a point is scored by whoever plays the hole in the fewest number of shots.

Saturday is a repeat of Friday and then on Sunday, there's no hiding place with 12 singles matches determining the final result.

Team Europe

Rory McIlroy (6-4-4): Yet to experience defeat for Europe having made his debut in 2010. Won two of three singles matches, particularly impressive against Rickie Fowler at Gleneagles. Negative four-ball record a surprise to some.

Danny Willett (debut): Rookie who won the Masters but has struggled for form since. Has played Walker Cup golf for Great Britain & Ireland and has plenty of experience playing golf on US soil.

Henrik Stenson (5-4-2): Holed the winning putt on 2006 debut before playing better than some in heavy defeat for Europe two years later. Formed fine partnership with Justin Rose on return to the side in 2014. Some injury concerns.

Chris Wood (debut): Former amateur team-mate of Willett who qualified chiefly thanks to victory at Wentworth in the spring. Another with some form and fitness concerns but was inside the top 30 at the US Open.

Sergio Garcia (18-9-5): Ryder Cup stalwart with a particularly impressive foursomes record, winning 10 points from a possible 13 and losing just twice. Negative singles record but produced the goods at Medinah.

Rafael Cabrera-Bello (debut): Solid season for this supreme ball-striker whose lack of wins raises concerns over his performance under pressure. Still, has been a big improver over the last 18 months and will be hard to beat.

Justin Rose (9-3-2): The standout record on this European side, bolstered by a superb performance at Gleneagles where he was unbeaten. Also impressed in winning his singles matches in both 2008 and 2012 and now Olympic champion.

Andy Sullivan (debut): Lost his way a little in recent times but qualified on the back of an excellent winter, going close twice in the Middle East to put himself in a strong position.

Matt Fitzpatrick (debut): Two-time European Tour winner with a huge future, who will be by some way the youngest player at Hazeltine. Very accurate off the tee and one of the side's better putters.

Lee Westwood (20-15-6): By far and away the most experienced member of the side and no surprise he was selected. Solid season includes second at Augusta but a long time since his last win and singles record a concern.

Martin Kaymer (4-3-3): Best known for holing the putt which ensured Europe would retain the trophy at Medinah. Only played two matches there and wasn't all that impressive at Gleneagles, but surely set for prominent role and has been reliable in singles recently.

Thomas Pieters (debut): Big-hitting youngster who demanded a place on the side with victory in the Made In Denmark. No doubt he has a big future but pressure to deliver here given competition for wild card places.

Team USA

Dustin Johnson (4-3-0): Made his debut in 2010 and impressive in singles, beating Martin Kaymer. Also one of the better US performers at Medinah, again winning his singles, and returns having been on a leave of absence two years ago. Lost first three matches but has won last four.

Jordan Spieth (2-1-1): Formed a brilliant partnership with Patrick Reed on his debut in 2014, the pair winning two foursomes matches impressively. Then squandered the lead as he lost to Graeme McDowell in singles but should prove a stalwart in US Ryder Cup teams for years to come.

Phil Mickelson (16-19-6): Nobody has played in more Ryder Cups than Mickelson, whose record is reasonable compared to others to have featured alongside him. 5-5 in singles, losing a critical match to Justin Rose at Medinah.

Jimmy Walker (1-1-3): Solid debut at Gleneagles when paired with Rickie Fowler. Won Sunday singles against Lee Westwood and back on the team as a major champion following PGA Championship success in August.

Patrick Reed (3-0-1): Unbeaten two years ago, three times alongside Spieth and once in singles, beating Henrik Stenson on the final hole. Since re-established himself as a key US player and will likely play with Spieth again.

Brooks Koepka (debut): Still just the one PGA Tour title to his name - which came in early 2015 - but a big-hitting youngster with immense talent and further potential. Inconsistent but likely to be a powerful four-ball weapon.

Brandt Snedeker (1-2-0): Automatic qualifier this time having required a wild card selection at Medinah, where he was involved in two tight pairs matches alongside Jim Furyk, winning one and losing the other. Beaten in singles by Paul Lawrie but better than that and will relish return.

Zach Johnson (6-6-2): Solid Ryder Cup record for a tough, battle-hardened competitor whose only singles defeat in four appearances came on his debut when against Darren Clarke on Irish soil. Could pair up with Mickelson.

Rickie Fowler (0-3-5): Yet to win a full point across two Ryder Cup appearances, albeit both were on European soil. Has avoided defeated in five of eight matches and was brilliant in Walker Cup golf, so expect this record to improve.

JB Holmes (2-0-1): Undefeated on Ryder Cup debut in his home state of Kentucky. Big-hitter was paired with a straight one there for an excellent four-ball pairing; partnership with Bubba Watson in Presidents Cup less successful but did impress of the pair. Dangerous.

Matt Kuchar (4-5-2): Losing Ryder Cup record, both individually and as part of a team - has played in three and lost all three. That said, has lost just one of five four-ball matches and won his first singles at Gleneagles. Solid team player, especially reliable as part of a pair.

Ryan Moore (debut): 11th-hour pick from Davis Love courtesy of a superb performance at the TOUR Championship, where he lost a play-off to Rory McIlroy. Makes his professional team debut for the USA and record representing them at amateur level only modest. That was over a decade ago, though, and is now in-form with a game that has no real weaknesses.

Italian Open, European Tour 2016

Hi All,

Not the greatest of weeks, with top 20 finishes from both Bubba Watson in America and Pablo Larrazabal in Europe the best we could muster. I am quite confident about finding the winner with this week’s selections, as all have points to prove heading into the Ryder Cup; and with all showing great form at this Milan venue 12 months ago, it should be the stage for the cream to rise to the top. As always stay sensible with the staking plan, long term profit is our objective. This week’s article and selections below:

Italian Open, European Tour – 10 pts Outlay

At Golf Club Milano, 7,156 yards, par 71 – Thursday September 15th to Sunday September 18th

Designed by James Peter Gannon and opened in 1928, Golf Club Milano sits next to the famous Monza racetrack. The course was later renovated by Silvio Grappasoni. There are three nine-hole courses onsite with this year’s tournament being played across the Red and Yellow courses.

This is the eighth time the Italian Open will be held on the course after its return last year following a 24-year absence.

Defending champion Karlberg is joined by a star-studded field at Golf Club Milano, which includes 2016 Masters Tournament Champion Danny Willett and two of Darren Clarke’s wildcard picks for The Ryder Cup, which starts in just over two weeks, Martin Kaymer and Lee Westwood.

The European Ryder Cup theme is continued with Matthew Fitzpatrick, Andy Sullivan and Chris Wood all making their final preparations for golf’s greatest team event, which tees off on Friday, September 30.

Former Major champions Padraig Harrington and YE Yang and 2015 European Tour Rookie of the Year Byeong Hun An will also tee it up on Thursday.

As well as Karlberg, eight more former winners of the Italian Open are in the field, including home favourite and former Ryder Cup player Francesco Molinari.

NAP – MARTIN KAYMER 14/1 (Coral) 2.5 pts EW

It has been a good few months for Martin full of close calls and top 10 finishes, this good play has seen him successfully gain a pick from Darren Clarke to be a Ryder Cup wildcard; he will be keen to justify his inclusion. This year’s Italian Open is being played on the same course as last year’s playing, Golf Club Milano, where Martin Kaymer finished in runners up place having lost in a playoff, and his tied 6th finish in the Made in Denmark only a few weeks ago show that he is arriving this week in good form, and I struggle to see him not challenging strongly again for this title.

NB – DANNY WILLETT 20/1 (Bet365 & Ladbrokes) 2 pts EW

Since winning this year’s Masters, good golf has been hard to come by for Danny, but were definite signs of his old self at the recent European Masters in Switzerland, where he managed a tied 12th finish, which included rounds of 64 and 65. With the Ryder Cup close on the horizon Danny Willett will be super keen to get things firmly going back in the right direction; and arriving back to the Milano club where he missed out on the playoff by just one shot last year, having shot all four rounds in the 60s could see him return back to the winner’s enclosure.

IWAC – MATTHEW FITZPATRICK 22/1 (PaddyPower) 1.5 pt EW

With a 5 th place finish in the Czech Masters 3 weeks ago, and a great comeback from a poor opening round for a tied 7th place in the European Masters 2 weeks ago (65, 66, 64 to finish off), Matt appears to be coming out of a poor run of form, and again in a similar fashion to Danny Willett this has come at the right time with the Ryder Cup, and he will be keen to continue. Finishing on a score of 18 under par at this venue last year, Matthew Fitzpatrick looks set to go close once again here in Italy.

NOTE: For the European Tour event, PaddyPower are offering top 7 places at 1/5 odds. All odds included in the above article are simply the highest odds available at the time of writing sourced via OddsChecker.com.

Barclays PGA Tour & Made in Denmark European Tour 2016

Hi All,

Any week we are able to get out in profit is always a classed as good one by me, and non more so than this week, where on form South Korean Si Woo Kim took the tournament by the scruff of the neck and wasn’t for letting anyone else get near, so from a long way out it looked like we’d have to settle for a 3rd place finish at 28/1 from Brandt Snedeker, and sure enough this was good enough to just about tip the scales in our favour.

Moving on to this week where the fun starts on the PGA Tour in the form of the FedEx cup playoff series, where week on week the field sizes are whittled down. With all the top players back out for the next month or so, and the odds on them now getting silly low with so many players at the top of the world rankings playing well and bookies running scared, I will be going down the value route for the next stretch of weeks in search of more profit. Hopefully a good run is ahead of us to finish off the regular season.

The Barclays, PGA Tour – 10 pts Outlay at Bethpage State Park (Black), 7,468 yards, par 71 – Thursday August 25th to Sunday August 28th

Built by A.W. Tillinghast, the Black opened in 1936 and was a treasured public gem for locals for decades until the 2002 U.S. Open thrust the course onto the world stage. A famous sign greets golfers near the first tee warning that only “highly skilled” golfers should play the Black, and its reputation for toughness attracted such pros as Sam Snead, Gene Sarazen and Byron Nelson early on to test its strength. Snead famously called it “an unfair test” after beating Nelson in a 1940 exhibition. Tiger Woods captured the 2002 Open at Bethpage, and the event returned just seven years later when Lucas Glover won a rain-soaked edition. The Black joined The Barclays rota in 2012, when Nick Watney prevailed.

FedEx Cup points leader Jason Day, also the reigning Barclays champion, and U.S. Open titleholder Dustin Johnson head a roster currently set for 122 at the opening playoff stop. Sergio Garcia sits out The Barclays for the second consecutive year, while Shane Lowry has opted to play the final European Tour stop before the automatic Ryder Cup berths are locked in. Masters champion Danny Willett is the third missing name. Emiliano Grillo and Smylie Kaufman, who won the season's first two events back in October, top a list of six rookies expected to crack the 2016 playoff lineup.

NAP – BRANDT SNEDEKER 40/1 (PaddyPower) 2.5 pts EW

Last week’s Wyndham Championship saw Brandt Snedeker notch up his seventh top 10 finish of the year; with a win and a further three times inside the top 3 to his name it really has been a great year for Brandt (currently sitting 6th in the FedEx Cup rankings). With the return of many of the games top names to the field, the value is there for all to see outside of the top 4 or 5 in the market. Having shot a round of at least 66 in each of this last three events, including two rounds of 65 in his 3rd place finish last week, there are few playing much better than Brandt Snedeker heading in to this week. What I also like, is that he has some good experience in the bank here at the tough Bethpage Black layout, having competed on this course in the 2009 US Open, and also securing runners up honours when The Barclays was last here in 2012, where he impressively shot all four rounds under par!

NB – JIM FURYK 45/1 (SkyBet) 1.5 pts EW

Whenever there is talk of golf about to be carried out on a tough US Open venue, my mind always turns to one man, Mr Reliable himself. Similar to the above, Jim Furyk arrives here this week in great form, with stand out rounds like the remarkable 58 just two weeks ago followed by a 64 last week helping Jim secure a 5th and 10th place finishes. Although his 94th place ranking in the FedEx Cup may seem modest to most, it is important to remember that Jim’s season got going very late due to a lengthy wrist injury, so in actual fact he has done very well to earn his spot in the top 125 for this event, having had almost half of the events as the majority. Having made the cut here in the aforementioned 2009 US Open, Jim Furyk also competed in the 2012 playing of The Barclays, both held around Bethpage, so he will also gain the benefit of having had tournament experience of this tough set up.

IWAC – SI WOO KIM 100/1 (StanJames) 1 pt EW

I have been following Si Woo Kim all year (currently 15th in the FedEx Cup rankings) since he graduated from the Web.com tour, feeling sure his textbook technique would see him break in to the winners circle sooner rather than later, he came close when losing in a playoff not long ago, but he put this behind him in great style only a few days ago to win the Wyndham Championship in tremendous style. Yes he may be the one that got away, but I don’t feel Si Woo Kim is a flash in the pan, and it has been said for a while it was only going to be a matter of time before an Asian competitor would mix it with the big boys at the top of the game, and at the spritely age of just 21 I feel confident that Si Woo will grow to be that man. The fact there is 100/1 available for the most recent winner on tour is simply too good to miss out on.

Made in Denmark, European Tour – 10 pts Outlay

At Himmerland Golf & Spa Resort, 7,033 yards, par 71 – Thursday August 25th to Sunday August 28th

The Backtee Course is one of three layouts at the Danish golfing haven of Himmerland and its most celebrated one, having officially re-opened in 2013 following one of the most extensive golf course renovations in Scandianian history. Designed by renowned course architect Philip Spogárd, who also designed Carya Golf Club, host venue for this season’s Turkish Airlines Open, it sits 20km away from the city of Alborg in the exposed landscape of northern Jutland. Although it’s not coastal; it is linksy and often windswept so the 7,033 yards can often feel longer, with the respective nine under and 13 under winnings scores in 2014 and 2015 proving it’s no walkover.

Although qualification for Europe’s Ryder Cup Team has already been finalised, this year’s Made in Denmark boasts its strongest field in the tournament’s history assembles at Himmerland Golf and Spa Resort this week. Three Major winners, Darren Clarke, Martin Kaymer and YE Yang, head the field with the 2011 Open Champion from Northern Ireland taking one final opportunity to run the rule over some of his potential wild-card selections for his European team at Hazeltine. Home favourite, Søren Kjeldsen who finished in a tie for second in the 2015 Made in Denmark, is among the players hoping make one final impression ahead of Clarke’s wild card picks next week, with former World Number One Kaymer and Ireland’s Shane Lowry targeting strong performances to catch the eye of the captain. Horsey returns to defend his crown while the inaugural champion Marc Warren from Scotland is also in the field.

NAP – SOREN KJELDSEN 18/1 (PaddyPower & Coral) 2.5 pts EW  placed

Currently sitting in 17th position in the Race to Dubai, and having narrowly missed out on Ryder Cup qualification on both the European and World point’s lists, it has been another season where Soren Kjeldsen has been the model of consistency. With four top 8 finishes on the European Tour since February, Soren, in front of home crowds, will be looking to make plenty of noise this week to force himself in to captain Clarke’s thinking. Finally, and worthy of note is the strong course and event form shown by Soren Kjeldsen – in the first two playing’s of this Made in Denmark event Soren has finished inside the top 15 on both occasions, with the highlight being last years running, where he finished in 2nd spot after three rounds in the 60s.

NB – BRADLEY DREDGE 28/1 (SkyBet, PaddyPower, Coral & Bet365) 1.5 pts EW  - 2nd

The 2016 season has seen Bradley Dredge continue to take steps to get back to where he once was as one of the more consistent and top golfers on the European circuit. Three times inside the top 7 places this year see Bradley riding high in 27th place on the Race to Dubai rankings, and having made the cut in each of his last three events on tour, I feel Bradley will be wanting a nice strong finish to the season. With that in mind, there will be no better place to start than here at this event, where he has a stand out record in the only two previous running’s of the event, with an outright 2nd in 2014 and a 6th place finish last year, Bradley Dredge has never found himself more than 3 shots behind the winner come close of play at this event on this golf course, and with 7 rounds under par from 8 attempts he looks destined to go close once more come Sunday afternoon.

IWAC – KRISTOFFER BROBERG 90/1 (Bet365 & StanJames) 1 pt EW

There is a little punt associated with my final selection here, but Kristoffer Broberg has form figures in this event that are too strong to ignore, with a 67 and a 69 to his name in the inaugural event in 2014; and an incredible final round of 62 seeing Kristoffer finish in runners up spot last year. With this form in the book, there must be something in the water around the Himmerland Resort that brings out the best in Kristoffer. This season hasn’t been the best, and this week will indeed have to spark an upturn in fortune for Kristoffer Broberg to get competitive here for the third year in a row, and with him sitting in the precarious position of 113th in the Race to Dubai, there are lots of incentives for Kristoffer to play well back in his native Scandinavia.

NOTE: As per usual, please do be careful and aware of who you are betting with for the golf, amazingly a lot of the higer profile companies change week by week on what place terms they offer. This week at The Barclays PaddyPower, SkyBet & StanJames are still offering places on the top 7 and 6 respectively! For the European Tour event, all bookies are 1/4 odds for the top 5 places.

This Week’s Outlay – 20 pts
