Quotation Of The Week – Newbie’s Beware, Mines Ahead!!

First a quick reminder of what the ‘Quotation Of The Week’ award is all about:

The idea is simple: Every time I find a quotation that I think will add real value for my blogs readers, I will bookmark it and put it on my list to be the: Quotation of the Week.

I will then write a post similar to this one explaining why I have decided on that particular weeks Quotation.

I will also link to it from my Quotation of the week icon situated near the top of my side bar

My Quotation of the week award will be posted every Friday.

For a full list of previous winners visit my ‘Quotation Of The WeekPage.
This week’s winner of my ‘Quotation of the week award is:

“There seems to be a tendency that, upon discovering Betfair, people want to run rather than walk. It all seems so easy, but the reality is that being successful is not simply a matter of learning how to back and lay and waiting for the money to roll in. It is a cut-throat game, where your opinion (and your money) are up against an opposite opinion and experience is a very useful asset in this game.
Think of it as a cash minefield. If you run and hit a mine, pick yourself up, dust yourself down, take a look around and walk on with some caution. Don't keep running and crying because you keep hitting more mines. “

blog Author & Sports Trader  Cassini describing Betfair.

I know that the above is a bit of a mouthful but as soon as I read it I knew it was going to be my Quotation Of The Week, the reason; because I just wish I had read that sort of advice in my early betting exchange days, it would have saved me a lot of money.

I can only speak from my own personal experience, but the above captures exactly how I perceived the Betfair markets when I stumbled across them. Initially I did think that they would be a license to print money and when the inevitable reality check happened, I thought that I could bully the markets to get the results I was after.

I soon learned to my cost that the betting exchange markets cannot be bullied!

  1. Thanks Mark - I didn't see anywhere how to collect the prize, which is All Mine...

  2. Zaboooooooooooom!!!

Wait. I'm feeling for my wallet. OK. It's still on the hip. I've lost my flip flops though as the favourites swivelled.

Those damn mines. It's like one of those second world war movies with the barbwire and desert scene. I hate it when those rogues hide one under the marram grass (that's just not cricket, old boy). Great post, as usual. Cassini is owed for two prizes now. :-) Keep up the good work, Mark.

  3. Hi Cassini

If I gave a prize each week, with the quality of your post you would probably bankrupt me very quickly LOL!!

    Hi Jason
In my earlier days there would be many a time where I switched the computer off feeling shell shocked.
