Quotation Of The Week (It's A Bruiser!!)

Because this is the inaugural ‘Quotation of the week’ post I wanted to find something special. Well I believe that I have found a quotation that has exceeded even my expectations:

“Winning at gambling is like a prize fight in which you are up against a very tough old professional fighter. To beat him, you dare not make a mistake or he will clobber you. If you give him an opening, you deserve to get hit. Once you are on top you still have to fight correctly and just as hard or he will again take advantage of any slackening of effort on your part.

In other words, speculation is a fighter’s game. If you hope to win, you have to have unlimited determination. You have to take your lumps, pick yourself up and try, try again. When you become a winner and you do better than other people, you will know why: Because you work hard and fight hard, your type of work is constant training and discipline.”

Quote from L.G. Holloway
(Professional gambler and author of the book Full-Time Gambler  )

Here’s the description of L.G. Holloway on Amazon

L.G. Holloway was the quintessential professional gambler. Not only did he make his living on the casino floor he was also an avid reader on the subject of gaming. He built his credentials as a winner quietly and unassumingly so as not to be pegged as a "hustler." His poker face was so strong that it wasn't until his book was released that he became recognized as the authority on successful gambling techniques.

  1. Hi Mark,

This is a fantastic 'Quote of The Week'. I believe that we all need to use such motivational literature to fullfil our goals and attain the success that comes with drive and ambition. I will make reference to this on HCE as this quotation is particularly empowering.

    Great work.

  2. I know I'm a bit late in submitting my entry for 'Quotation of the week', hopefully it will chart next week, it was coined by none other than Francis Bacon, a true master of prosaic excellence, it goes like this, 'A man who begins with certainties, will end in doubt and a man who is content to begin in doubt will end with certainties.'

  3. Hi Jason

    Thanks for the positive feedback.

Hopefully this format of one quotation a week will help to keep our motivation high by drip feeding these powerful ideas.

Thanks for the submission! great quote, it took me a while to get my head round it's message though!!

    Thanks again
